Procedure overview
A M Water Services maintains a Training Matrix (APP_12) that defines the training, skills and competencies required for every operational role. New starters receive an HSQE induction on day one and are issued the New Starter Pack covering the integrated HSQE policy, key BMS procedures, and the registers they need to know. The Training Matrix is reviewed at least annually; gap analysis identifies training shortfalls; an annual training plan and budget are produced and submitted to the Directors for approval. Approved training is arranged with external providers per SOP 4.3. Monthly training-progress reports are submitted to the Directors and re-certification dates are tracked so that no operative falls out of certification on a live job. Records are retained per SOP 4.7.

Water-industry competencies that must appear on the Training Matrix
As a water-infrastructure contractor working on adopted assets, AMWS operatives must hold and maintain (where applicable to their role): EUSR (Energy & Utility Skills Register) for water-industry safety passports; NRSWA (New Roads & Street Works Act 1991) Operative or Supervisor certification for any work in the highway; National Water Hygiene Card (the "Blue Card") for any work in contact with potable water; Confined Space Category A/B/C (per SOP 8.12); NPORS or equivalent for plant operators; First Aid at Work (FAW or EFAW per SOP 8.3); Asbestos Awareness (UKATA per SOP 8.14); and Manual Handling training (per SOP 8.2). Each must be in date for the period the operative is on the rota; expired certifications fall out of the Training Matrix and that operative is not assigned the affected work until refresher training is completed.
