The document

Purpose

This register records the life cycle perspective required by Clause 6.1.2 of ISO 14001: which stages of the life cycle of A M Water Services Limited’s work the business can control, which it can only influence, and what it does about each. It is a perspective, not a life cycle assessment.

Where control actually sits

AMWS installs and repairs water infrastructure to a client’s design and to an adoption standard set by the receiving water company. That determines where control sits at each stage. AMWS does not design the network, does not choose the pipe material, and does not operate the asset after adoption.

Conclusions

Two stages carry almost all of AMWS’s controllable environmental impact: construction and transport. Control at both is total rather than partial. Raw material, design and the in-service life of the asset are set by the client and the receiving water company, and AMWS’s position there is influence at best.

Recommendations

  • Concentrate environmental effort on the construction and transport stages, where control is complete and the aspects score highest in APP_06. The environmental objectives follow from this: APP_11 E1 zero incidents is a construction-stage measure, E3 carbon a transport-stage one.
  • Use the two upstream influences that are real: supplier selection through APP_19, and method proposal at enquiry stage under SOP 5.5.
  • Keep PFAS as a watching item until a UK REACH restriction is made, rather than acting ahead of a requirement that does not yet exist.

Where the detail lives

This register is the perspective. The detail sits where it is maintained.

301/06/2026Aaron Mason, DirectorAnnual review — review cycle re-aligned to June IMS anniversary. 2 new aspects added to the life-cycle matrix to match APP_06: Aspect 13 Climate Adaptation [NEW 2026] and Aspect 14 PFAS [NEW 2026]. Aspect 8 Habitat updated for mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain (Environment Act 2021, > 5ha in force Nov 2023). Strategic Actions section added — 7 stages × concrete action + linked KPI / SOP / register cross-references for auditor traceability. Aspect descriptions condensed to single-word control / influence designations (matching Excel companion) for KISS consistency — narrative detail now lives in Strategic Actions. Significant Aspects Summary corrected to reflect APP_06 score bands (Energy Use moved to High band; Spillages corrected to Medium). Word-doc companion dropped — Excel is now the sole companion (consistent with the appendix pattern).
409/09/2026Aaron Mason, DirectorSimplified, and set out on the AMWS life-cycle template. Six stages against life-cycle stage, activity, aspects, impacts, control or influence, risks, opportunities and operational control, with conclusions and recommendations. Each row cites the APP_06 aspects and APP_05 risks it rests on. Clause 6.1.2 asks for a perspective rather than a full assessment, and the 14 × 7 grid restating APP_06 scores is withdrawn.
