This register is the central index of every Control of Substances Hazardous to Health assessment held by A M Water Services Limited, so that assessments are tracked, reviewed and maintained under the COSHH Regulations 2002, GB CLP, ISO 45001 and the workplace exposure limits in HSE EH40/2005, which is cited undated so a new edition does not force a reissue.
All hazardous substances, and substances formally classified as non-hazardous, used, stored or produced as a by-product across AMWS operations — field, workshop, office and welfare. The register covers 30 substances at this issue.
| Value | What it means |
|---|---|
| Active | The assessment is final and the substance is approved for use. |
| Draft | Written and worked to, awaiting a Director’s signature. |
| Held | A copy of the supplier’s safety data sheet is held on this portal against the assessment. |
| Being obtained | No copy is held here yet. The assessment is made from the container label, which is what Regulation 6 requires. |
A copy of the supplier’s sheet is held on this portal for 26 of the 31 assessments. The remaining 4 are being obtained: COSHH_15, COSHH_28, COSHH_29, COSHH_31.
COSHH places no duty on an employer to hold a safety data sheet. That duty sits with the supplier under REACH Article 31. What Regulation 6 requires is a suitable and sufficient assessment, and every assessment in this register is made from the classification printed on the container, photographed at the cabinet check. Holding the sheet as well is good practice and it is chased on that basis.
Annually as a minimum. The review considers whether the substance is still in use, whether the supplier SDS has been revised, whether controls remain adequate, whether the PPE specification still holds, and whether health-surveillance obligations have changed.
Outside the annual cycle, a review is mandatory when a new supplier or formulation is introduced, when an SDS revision flags a new hazard statement or exposure-limit change, when a related incident or near miss occurs, when HSE guidance is updated, or when a process or quantity change materially alters exposure.
Aligned with COSHH regulation 11 and APP_08.
