| Training requirement | Category | Field Operative | Senior Operative | Supervisor | Manager | Office Staff |
|---|
This matrix defines the mandatory and optional training requirements for every role at A M Water Services Limited, so that personnel hold the competence their duties require under the regulations, the WIRS standards and the management system.
All employees across field operations, management and office functions, and subcontractors and agency workers performing safety-critical activities. It covers statutory compliance, technical competence and professional development, and links to the competency assessment and training-effectiveness processes.
Each column says what the role requires. It does not say what any individual currently holds.
| Mark | What it means | How it is decided |
|---|---|---|
| R | Required. The role cannot be performed without it. | Set by a legal duty, a client or WIRS requirement, or a control named in a risk assessment or SOP. Somebody in the role without it is a competence gap and is raised on APP_21. |
| O | Optional. Beneficial but not mandatory. | Supports development or gives cover depth. Not holding it is not a gap. |
| — | Not applicable to this role. | The role does not carry out the activity the requirement exists for. |
| Field Operative | Entry-level field workers carrying out basic excavation and reinstatement works |
| Senior Operative | Experienced workers capable of leading small teams and complex operations |
| Supervisor | Site supervisors responsible for multiple teams and H&S compliance |
| Manager | Operations and contract managers with overall responsibility |
| Office Staff | Administrative, planning and support personnel |
| Category | Typical renewal |
|---|---|
| Statutory tickets (Street Works, SHEA) | 3–5 years |
| Equipment operations | 3–5 years |
| First aid | 3 years |
| Online H&S courses | Annual |
| Management qualifications | 5 years |
| Face-fit testing | Annual, or on a change of RPE |
Renewal dates are monitored monthly and reported to management. The expiry held against each individual is on the Ticket & Qualification Log; this table is the planning assumption, not the record.
A point-in-time confirmation that the requirements above are met by the people holding the roles. the Ticket & Qualification Log at the AMWS office is the master record; this is the evidence captured at the visit, kept here because two of these certificates are closure conditions on CAR-2026-015.
| Holder | Qualification | Valid to |
|---|---|---|
| Jason May | Fire Warden / Fire Marshal | 21/07/2029 |
| Jason May | Emergency First Aid at Work | 29/11/2028 |
| Jason May | Fire Extinguisher Awareness | 21/07/2027 |
| Jason May | Fire Safety Awareness | 22/10/2026 |
| Jason May | Mental Health First-Aider | 07/11/2026 |
| Leanne Mason | Emergency First Aid at Work | 16/06/2029 |
| Leanne Mason | Fire Marshal | 15/11/2026 — rebooking in hand |
| Leanne Mason | Fire Safety Awareness | 28/10/2026 |
Jason May's Fire Marshal renewal restores second-marshal cover, absent since 24/07/2026, and closed CAR-2026-015 action 1. Leanne Mason's Emergency First Aid certificate is now a record rather than a commitment and closed action 3. CAR-2026-015 is open against Leanne Mason's Fire Marshal renewal, due before the 15/11/2026 expiry. Asbestos awareness training for the operatives ran across September and October 2026.
This matrix is the requirement. The record of who holds what, with expiry dates, is the Ticket & Qualification Log at the AMWS office, reflected in ComplianceTrack with QR-code lookup per individual and referenced at APP_13. Effectiveness of training is evaluated through performance monitoring and incident analysis rather than by attendance alone.
Additional qualifications may be required by a specific contract or client specification; those are handled at contract review and are not restated here.
Competence management follows ISO 10015 competence management and people development, cited undated so a new edition does not force a reissue. The editions actually held are listed in APP_02 Section 3.
