The document

Purpose

This register identifies and evaluates the environmental aspects and impacts of A M Water Services Limited’s operations under ISO 14001 Clause 6.1.2, scores each one against defined criteria, and records the compliance obligation and the controls that apply to it.

Scope

All AMWS activities, products and services with an environmental aspect, across water-main installation and repair, grab and aggregate work, the yard and the office. The register covers 14 aspects at this issue, reviewed in the 2026 cycle.

How significance is scored

Significance = A Impact + B Legal + (C Quantity × D Frequency), giving a range of 3 to 24, the same method as APP_05. Each criterion is scored 1 to 4 against a stated definition, so the number can be checked rather than taken on trust.

The band follows from the score:

How each aspect is managed

Every aspect is classed Control, Monitor or Improve. The class follows from the record: an aspect carrying an open action against an obligation already in force is Improve, one held by the controls in place is Control, and one whose obligation has not yet arrived is Monitor whether or not a forward commitment is recorded against it.

ClassHow it is decided
ControlHeld by the controls already in place. No action open.
MonitorWatched for a trigger that has not yet arrived. Any action it carries is a forward commitment rather than a live obligation.
ImproveCarries an open action against an obligation already in force, with an owner and a date.

Treatment options

AcceptControls judged appropriate. Monitor, and develop contingency plans where necessary.
TransferShift responsibility by contract or insurance, whole or shared.
MitigateReduce likelihood through improved controls and procedures.
AvoidDo not proceed, or choose an alternative that achieves the same outcome.

Actions, and why the list is shorter than it was

The Issue 3 action list carried fourteen actions, most dated 31/12/2026, and several were business improvements rather than obligations: install flow meters, procure dust-suppression equipment, optimise routing, improve depot security. At Issue 4 the list is cut to what a statute, a regulation or a certification requirement obliges AMWS to do. Each action names the obligation behind it, and status is reviewed at the standing weekly Director / HSQE compliance call.

The improvements removed from this list are not lost. They belong in the opportunity register at APP_05, where they can be weighed against each other rather than carried here as obligations.

Aspects managed by controls already in place

These aspects are controlled. The control exists, is evidenced and is judged adequate for the scale of the operation, so no action is carried against them. An aspect with no action against it is not an aspect that has been forgotten.

Monitoring and review

Performance indicators:

Number of environmental incidents
Waste diversion rate, target 95% or better
Energy consumption trends, kWh and cost
Compliance audit results
Stakeholder complaints received
Achievement of the objectives and targets in APP_11
Carbon-baseline data quality

The register is reviewed:

Annual review of all aspects and impacts, in June, aligned to the IMS cycle
Immediately following a significant incident
On an operational change — a new service line, a new chemical, a new site type
On a legislative change — currently tracking Simpler Recycling, biodiversity net gain, SuDS and the PFAS UK REACH restriction
As a Management Review input
ISO 14001:2026 transition review, within the three-year window from April 2026
