New EPA methodology announced and significant water sector prosecution highlights critical compliance areas.
🔴 New Environmental Performance Assessment¶
From January 1, 2026: - 5-tier rating system (Excellent/Good/Fair/Improvement Required/Failing) - ALL pollution incidents must be reported - No more downgrading Category 3 incidents - "Dry Day Spills" tracked separately
Impact: Every incident on our sites affects client EPA ratings
Major Water Sector Prosecution¶
Lanes Group fined £800,000: - Jet hose explosion fatality - Worker paralyzed, later died - December 2020 incident
Critical Lesson: High-pressure jetting equipment requires: - Catastrophic failure risk assessments - Regular equipment inspection - Emergency response procedures
Vehicle Safety Prosecutions¶
Multiple million-pound fines: - Biffa: £2.48 million (reversing vehicle) - £1 million for road-sweeper incident
Key Requirement: Complete vehicle-pedestrian segregation at all sites
Smart Water Metering Progress¶
250,000 meters now connected: - 24 reads daily vs 2 yearly - Thames Water: 28,000 leaks identified - 17% consumption reduction
