Executive Summary

ISO 14001:2026 published; April HSE prosecutions reinforce welfare and planning expectations; Stress Awareness Month; Achilles audit pack final assembly.

🔴 ISO 14001:2026 — Published 15 April

The revised environmental management standard published as scheduled. Headline changes for AMWS:

  • New clause on management of change for the EMS — formalises something we already do but now needs an explicit procedural hook
  • "Externally provided processes, products and services" replaces the old "outsourced processes" wording — touches SOP 5.3 Supplier Evaluation directly
  • Climate-change amendment (2024) is now folded in — we cover this via APP_06 Aspects (Aspect 9: Climate Adaptation)
  • Updated Harmonised Structure — easier to keep ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 aligned

Transition window: 15 April 2029. AMWS plan: gap-analysis Q3 2026 (post-Achilles), formal transition audit folded into the November 2027 recertification cycle.

Stress Awareness Month — April

Stress Awareness Month every April. HSE's "5 Rs" approach:

  • Reach out — talk to someone
  • Recognise — your own signs and others'
  • Respond — early, not when it's a crisis
  • Reflect — what's the source?
  • Make it Routine — not a one-off check-in

AMWS commitments:

  • Friday afternoon "yard tea" — Aaron/Leanne, no agenda
  • POL_HSQE_29 Mental Health re-circulated
  • MHFA cover: Jason May + Leanne Mason
  • Lighthouse Construction Charity helpline (0345 605 1956)

HSE Prosecutions — April Pattern

Two notable April prosecutions:

Ling Developments Limited — £15,858 (13 April, Birmingham) for failing to provide suitable welfare facilities. Reminder: welfare is not "nice to have" — it's an HSE-enforceable minimum. SOP 5.1 RAMS must spec welfare provision before mobilisation.

Construction company fined for repeated site failures (15 April) — pattern of unaddressed enforcement notices led to escalating action. Lesson: an enforcement notice is not a discussion — it's a deadline.

Achilles UVDB Audit — 8 Weeks Out

The Achilles B2 surveillance audit is 3-4 June 2026. Pack assembly status (per the gap-closure tracker):

  • Master B2 Evidence Pack — current
  • All 13 category folders populated with current evidence
  • 23 gap-closure items — 18 closed, 5 in progress (BCP exercise + 3 expired training certs + PPE register consolidation + EAP enrolment decision)

On-site action: If a client auditor or visitor asks for evidence during May/June, route them to Sean. Don't bluff — show them the controlled portal version.

Toolbox-Talk Programme — Refreshed for the Year

The new 12-month TBT programme runs May 2026 – April 2027. Three pre-audit deliveries before 3 June:

  2. Wk of 19 May — HAVS hand-arm vibration (Jason)

Attendance sheets filed under communications/tbt-records/.
