COSHH Assessments

Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) assessments covering all substances used across A M Water Services operations: field, workshop and office-welfare.

Each assessment is a controlled document. Paper copies are uncontrolled. Always check this site for the current version, and refer to the supplier's Safety Data Sheet (SDS) alongside.

Assessment format

Every assessment follows the same 16-section format, aligned with the COSHH Regulations 2002 and CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. COSHH_25–30 were issued in this format on 08/09/2026; COSHH_01–24 were migrated to it on 09/09/2026 with no change to hazard classification, exposure limits, control measures or risk rating.

  2. Hazard classification (H-codes, P-codes, GHS pictogram grid)
  3. Persons at risk — staff, public, visitors, contractor, workers, young / pregnant
  4. Routes of exposure
  5. Workplace exposure limits (HSE EH40/2005) — STD, 8-hr TWA, 15-min STEL
  6. Frequency and duration of exposure (new — COSHH Regulation 6 requires amount, level and duration to be considered)
  7. Control measures (hierarchy of controls)
  8. Storage and handling
  9. Emergency procedures — first aid, spillage, fire prevention
  10. Waste disposal
  11. Risk rating
  12. Training requirements
  13. Assessment outcome (new — safe to proceed / safe with additional actions / unsafe)
  14. Monitoring and review
  15. References
  16. Signatures (new — assessor, supervisor, approver and user acknowledgement)

Each page includes a SDS link to the manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet, and a Word download of the assessment for printing / paper records.

Cabinet check, 24 September 2026

The cabinet was inventoried and assessed in September 2026: five assessments written on 08/09/2026 and one more, COSHH_31, added on 26/09/2026 for a 20 litre drum of NAPA Antifreeze & Coolant Longlife Red.

The cabinet was photographed front and back on 24/09/2026 with the part numbers legible. Those photographs confirmed the product on every one and corrected the classification on two: COSHH_30 gained H318, causes serious eye damage, which it had not carried, and COSHH_29 gained H315 and had H412 corrected to H411. All six remain in draft pending a Director's signature.

SDS PDFs for each substance are stored alongside the assessment and linked directly from each COSHH page. The 11 van-relevant SDSs are also synchronised to the Van Packs site.

For the three fuel products (Stihl 2-stroke, BP petrol, BP diesel), the SDS is linked to the supplier's website so the latest revision is always available.
